Booking Through Thursday - 29082013

Which is more important? Quality for your reading? Or quantity?

My answer:
It has to be quality! I don't see the point reading so many trashy books or books that is not worth reading. This explains the number of books I have stopped reading mid-way; just can't bring myself to the end of it. I believe there are many more books which are worth my time and which could give me invaluable lessons and of course, satisfaction! :)

Boey at MPH Subang Parade

The moment I found out Boey will be in Malaysia and will be going around for book signings, I know I have to attend! Planned to go for the one in Kinokuniya KLCC but failed due to some unavoidable matters at home. MPH Subang Parade is my final chance and I'm glad I could make it! I made it just in time after I participated at Subang Jaya Book Exhange Programme. :)

It was my first time attending a Book Signing Session. Either none of my favourite authors have been to Malaysia or I am not aware of their whereabouts. (I doubt Sophie Kinsella or Amanda Hocking has been in Malaysia for any signings) The session started with a little presentation about Boey's childhood delivered by Boey himself followed by Q&A. I didn't expect to see soooo many kids but yea, there are many! Few 2 things that came to my mind were "Persimmon" and "Can they relate as well as kids in the 80s or 90s do?". Ah well, let's just leave it to their imagination. If they get it, good. If they don't, they can always reread when they reach the age when they would understand better. :p

Boey speaking of his parents.

Boey talked a little about Maths and weight problem.

Check out the kids!!!! One of them asked him for a movie. hahaha Cute!

This is probably the time when I asked if he is already on Goodreads and he said "Owhhh...so you're the one". Yea....hahaha He has to be there. That's where we bookaholics are. :)
Does this look like I am waiting for a teacher to mark my exercise book? :p The stance may look the same but I was very happy to have my book autographed and I got to chat a lil with him too. :) Well, it is not often that we get to meet authors, right?

Cute, isn't it? Can I have a cute character of myself too?

This is me getting excited about taking a pic with Boey. :p

Tadaa!!! This is a nice pic but too bad Book 1 had its back towards the camera. Mr.Photographer forgot to inform *smirk*....when I complained, he said "You've done 99% things right. This is minor". I don't know if I can go to sleep well with this unfixed. I don't even know how to photoshop!

Luck was on my side. After dinner(that was an hour after or so), I went back to MPH and found Boey still seated and calmly entertaining his fans. :) So here are a few more pictures. I made sure the book covers are facing the camera this time!

Below pic isn't good; I had my eye on the other camera.

So here it is! At last. Not too good but I fixed the first problem so I'll make do. :p

Autographed! Both books! :) I'm a happy "kid".

And here's a little something to show off too; When I Was A Kid 2 Shapie!
Got lucky with this one. ;) Thank you Boey!!!!!!

Missed Boey?
You still have few chances left to catch him! If you are in Melaka, you are in luck!

If you still haven't heard of Boey until you landed on my blog, check him out Wiki; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheeming_Boey

Want to know more about Boey?
Check out his page iamboey.com This is also where he often updates. Since I can't get enough of his books, this is where I go. And yes, I laugh to myself reading it sometimes.

p/s: This post is written bottom-up. I do this once in awhile coz top-to-bottom doesn't induce much words from my head. Reminds me of the days when I was studying for exams. I read my books and notes from the back. The front part of the books/notes could get a little bit boring coz I've done it way too many times.

Subang Jaya Book Exchange Programme

I have always thought about book exchanges within the bookaholic community but it just remains in my head. When I first found out about Subang Jaya Book Exchange Programme, I was ecstatic!

This awesome programme started in 2009 but I just found out about it last year. I never got the chance to go; I normally spend my weekend cocooning in my parents place in KL or working.

Last weekend, my lucky star (or sun?) was on my side. :) I manage to drop by to give it a shot!

For all of you who wonders where it is, please find the lovely cabin address at the bottom of this post.
If you know where USJ 12 field is, you will not miss the cabin.

Tadaa! Finally get to check in! *grinssss*

As you walk in, you will see a bookshelf filled with books.

Turn right and check in the books you would like to be exchanged. The books will be inspected to ensure it is good enough for an exchange.

Which books are acceptable?
I believe it has to be :
- in readable condition so no missing pages, not torn and etc.
- relevant; not too outdated. This probably applies to technology-related books.

For more, please get in touch with the organizer. Details at the bottom of this post. Upon approval of your books, you will receive a token similar to the one on my palm below. The person incharge will inform you of the number and type of books you are allowed to pick. This is based on the books you checked in earlier. ;)

The picture below was taken from a corner at the entrance of the cabin. Decent size. It is now housing fiction, non-fiction and children's books.

A lil panoramic view perhaps?

Time for short for me I hunt for gems. Seriously, I was rushing but I have to ensure I pick the right books!

Done!
As you can see, I am a happy girl. Exchanged 3 books with 3 gems. On top of that, I managed to be among the first 50 book exchanger so I got RM10 Times Bookstore voucher. That only means I CAN BUY MORE BOOKS. :p
(One time offer for now. It was a special weekend; Official Launch.)

Thank you Subang Book Exchange. Thank you Times Bookstore.

Books I brought home. :)
I didn't know what to pick. Went around the shelves and these got me.
I now have The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho printed in 1998. :)

My date told me to hurry up. I know I have too because there is a session with an author at MPH Subang Parade which I have been wanting to go!!!! Will post about it too!

Anyhow, few tips on picking books.

1) Don't rush! Go through be shelves. You will never know what you will find. (Yea, I was in a rush so I had to speed hunt!) I saw 2 copies of P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern, 2 out of 4 books from Nora Roberts Wedding quartet and The famous Eat Pray Love book.

2) Never judge books by its cover. Cliché. I know.

3) The books are arranged according to authors and sections so if there is an author you are looking for, the arrangement could help. :)

4) This needs luck. If there is an author you have never tried, this could be a good start. Need luck.
