Sahara is on the run again. Being torn between two guys, she decided to leave them both and start a new life (again). This time, she maintains the connection with her bestfriend Emily. She has decided to go through therapy. She also learned to make friends. She found out she is missing a mother's love. Odd to her but it is a refreshing change. She avoided Tyree but there is no way she can avoid Emmanuel and she doesn't want to runaway from Emily ever again.

Emily moved on with her life and business. Since Sahara promised to not runaway again and make up for the lost time with her bestfriend, she deciced to be there for Emily's major life events. With that, she has to be where Emmanuel is. Emmanual is going through a rough time in his life as well.

Sahara eventually decided to be brave and face her fears. She confronted both guys and worked from there on who to be with. She has finally learned to let go and move on. She knows deep down she can't continue keeping things hidden and live a lie. No way she can run from her true love.

My take on this book:
Love love loveeee Danielle Allen's writing. :) I am happy with the ending though I would prefer if she ended up with the other guy. ;) Guess that is the twist of the story.

This is the sequel to the book Back to Life. If you have missed this review, please click here to have an overview. Danielle Allen can also be found on Goodreads

Back To Reality by Danielle Allen (Cover Reveal)

Release Day December 1st, 2013

~ Synopsis ~
Love brought her back to life. Life brought her back to reality.

Her past: Emanuel Mills was her first love. The guitar playing, adventure seeking, IT whiz was everything she ever wanted.

Her present: Tyree Barker was her last love. The cultured, educated, successful entrepreneur was everything she needed.
But when Sahara Lee’s past and present collided, a series of events occurred that changed her life forever, leaving her future up in the air. As a college freshman, a tragic accident changed the course of Sahara’s life. Ten years later, just when she started putting her life back together, Sahara’s world was rocked again due to a similar accident. Heartbroken and guilt ridden, Sahara fell into old, familiar habits before quickly realizing that she wasn’t the same Sahara Lee anymore. Unable to live a lonely, loveless, isolated life anymore, Sahara decided that the way she coped before wasn’t going to work this time around. Time didn’t heal her wounds, but forgiveness might.

~ Back To Life (Book 1) ~
Sahara Lee has spent the last ten years living with the guilt of a tragic accident and its aftermath. That night irrevocably changed the outgoing, fun-loving college freshman into an introverted, workaholic with no social life. Sahara isolates herself from everyone and everything that reminds her of home in an effort to forget what happened. Using art as a substitute for love, Sahara throws herself into music and art as a way to feel something other than the guilt that haunts her. She accepts her lonely existence as penance for the role she played in the accident. That is, until she meets Tyree Barker, the good looking entrepreneur with baggage of his own. Blindsided by a legal loophole, Sahara is suddenly forced to confront the past she’s been running from. Juggling the guilty feelings of her past and the unexpected feelings of her present, Sahara’s future becomes complicated as she heads down a path of forgiveness, love, and heartbreak…and not in that particular order. Back to Life reminds you that living and existing are two completely different ways to go through life. Grief will break you but guilt, guilt will destroy you. And once that happens, what can bring you back to life?

I am a married event planner and life coach. My awesome friends and family and my amazing husband make my life sweet. I love to have fun and enjoy the life I’ve been blessed with. I love shopping and football with equal fervor. I’m an amateur movie critic (i.e. my husband and I watch and critique a lot of movies for fun). I love to read and I enjoy sharing my love of books with anyone who will listen. I love music. A good lyric with a good melody can paint a vivid picture and invoke such a range of emotions. I have a soft spot for most mediums of creative, artistic expression.
With degrees in psychology, human services, and marriage and family counseling, I have a unique perspective on life, love and the pursuit of happiness. As an author, I combine an active imagination and life experiences to create stories that are easily relatable and intentionally intriguing. I want to offer you a peek into someone else’s life and for you to get lost in their story, their trials, their triumphs. My ultimate goal is to create a character or a story that stays with you long after you’ve put the book down.
So in a nutshell: I plan. I teach. I read. I write. I watch. I critique. I shop. I play. I love.
To know me is to love me.

Hilary is a media agent, the main character in this book is an interesting character. She is all-business kind of woman. With her can-do attitude, she expects no less from here employees and celebrities (in this case chefs). What others do not know about her is her love life. Though she has buried it all in the past, the feelings suddenly revived when Lenny came into the picture with Long Tom Hendry and her last fling Mickey.

When she spent some time in Ireland to check out what Lenny is all about, she did not know the ingredients of her life is about to be placed in a pot!

Apart from these characters, her other employees and other supporting celebrities in the book makes it all interesting and very realistic. This is my first time reading her book and I would say it is a fun read! Especially if you are into reality shows. ;) Lauren Conrad book fans, you should give this a shot.

Mix together…
A tough-cookie media agent who’s clawed her way to the top, and a con-man who wants to open a cookery school.
Add in a washed-up celebrity chef whose career needs re-building…
Flavour with…
An aging rock star fresh from rehab, and a Sloane Ranger food writer who gets her own TV show…
Bring to the boil:
At a Gourmet Food Festival, in Ireland, where anything goes!

When media agent Hilary Hargreaves travels to Ireland to look at a campaign for a new cookery school, she meets a blast from her past – the romantic but feckless chef Mickey Lloyd, who is hell-bent on resurrecting his flagging career. Her tough demeanour is rocked as it becomes apparent Mickey’s intentions involve more than a stint behind a stove in his quest to pursue her. But as plans for the school gain momentum, she realises that she’s developing more than a passing interest in reformed alcoholic Long Tom Hendry, who owns the crumbling old mansion where the school will be homed. Hilary has many ingredients to juggle with her demanding client list – which looks set to boil over if she doesn’t keep control. From London’s bustling Soho, to Southern Ireland and the sunny shores of the Caribbean, has Hilary got too much on her plate and is she really prepared to risk it all for love?

Sophie Kinsella - Wedding Night Cover Pick & Reader Advisory Panel

Wedding Night paperback version to be released.
Vote for your favourite cover design at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WeddingNightCover

Darker background gives it a more expensive look. It would also stand out on the shelves. Moreover, it is a wedding night. :)

Pink roses screams attention with it wedding bouquet. I would have picked Graphic Dress if the background is peach colour and the outline of the dress to be bolder with lacy details. It would definitely give it a very classy wedding look.

The roses. It definitely stands out! We have yet to have a green cover. :)

This has got to be the toughest. It is all pretty.

Final pic. Gotta be my favourite! Your ladies will definitely pick this! :) It goes with the chic-lit genre too!

If you are a fan of the author, you would love this. You can be more involved with the books than you ever imagined. Towards the end of the short survey, you can register yourself to be on the newly created Sophie Kinsella Reader Advisory Panel.

The panel is set to assist creating dialogue between the reader, Sophie Kinsella and the publishing team. On top of that....goodies!

Excerpt:
Walking up to me with his usual confident stride, my breath caught in my chest. Looking unnervingly handsome and unbelievably sexy, he wore burgundy tailored dress pants with a white button up shirt. His burgundy, dark grey and white striped tie was still tucked into his burgundy vest. His grey jacket was unbuttoned and completed his look. “Sahara, this is for you,” Ty lifted the box up higher. “And you will accept it. What you give me pales in comparison to all of this. Take your gift,” he commanded with a sexy smile that sent volts of energy through my body.

Review:
Sahara met an accident after a party during her freshman year. It costed the life of her father. It costed lifetime opportunities of her loved ones; her bestfriend and her first love. She put all the blame onto herself. She took off after the accident. Moved to a different state but never stopped punishing herself for the accidents.

For 10 years, she avoided talking about the incident. She avoided contacts with her bestfriend Emily. She avoided feeling happy. It is simply her way of punishing herself for the accident she blamed herself for. She kept herself busy with studies and then work. She spent sleepless nights going back to the time when the accident happened. She avoided relationships as she felt she doesn't deserve feeling happy and that she destroys whoever she loves or loves her.

This ended when she bumped into a beautiful stranger, Tyree Barker. A handsome business owner living in the same building as her. She learned to live her fears and opened up to him like never before. The feelings were mutual. She learned to love. She eventually reconciled with her past.

While everything is going well, she left a little bit of her matter hidden from Tyree. Little did she know they were both doing the same. Will she be able to pick between the man who has always loved her of the mane who loves her for who she is now and gives her strength to live? Will they be able to make it through? Will they be able to resolve their past?

p/s: First book blog tour. Enjoying it! Never tried Danielle's writing but it is great. Made me feel sooooo in love. *tralalalala* I would have given it all the stars but I like sweet happy endings. I  hope there is a little sequel to this! :)

gigapedia Replacement

Good news to all who mourn over the "death" of gigapedia. I still mourn from time to time but I have learnt to be a pirate when the time calls for it; torrent. Though so, torrent sites are not very friendly with book searches. The ones we are used to are similar to browsing books in the library but virtual.

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you http://bookos.org/  http://bookza.org/ :)
I would say this is the closest to gigapedia we ever get.

Upon hitting the URL, you will see the following. Here you have an option to either search for books by keywords or you can browse based on categories. To browse, mouse-over the text Books on the top right corner of the screen and select Browse.

There are many categories of books. Below is what it looks like.

In this example, I selected Baking. Results as following.
To download a book, simply click on the word Download beneath the title of the book. :)

Gemma is running out of time. She has yet to find a way to destroy the scroll. Penn is desperately looking for her replacement. Harper is doing all she could even if it means she will be missing classes. Alex and Gemma has gotten back together and their love stronger than ever.

Thea is getting tired of Penn. With Liv in the picture, things are getting more difficult and getting more out of control. Liv is always hungry. More damage is done in Capri town. With Marcy and Lydia's help, they were able to trace Demeter which goes with the name Diana now. However, she is not willing to help break the curse.

Gemma tried everything to break the curse but no luck. Daniel is getting deeper into the mess. Gemma can't help feeling guilty about how her loved ones have to sacrifice. When they have gotten rid off the evil sirens, everybody thought the curse has been broken. Gemma knew her life has come to an end as she gets weaker and weaker. Alex would not let her go easily. Together, the destroyed the scroll.

p/s: I love happy endings. This final book is a little slow in action but I am glad it all ends well. If there is anything I would like to change or add to the story, it would be that Kirby did not die and Natalie is back to her old self. Now that would be an absolute happy ending. Yes, I love happy endings. :)

How much do you visualize when you read? Do you imagine faces for the characters? Can you see the locations in your mind’s eye? Or do you just plunge ahead with the story, letting the imagery fall to the wayside?

My answer:
Can I say I imagine everything? For me, it is like watching a movie but with me walking through the scenes. :) Mostly, I visualize what the characters wear, how they speak, where they are and many more. This could be the reason why when I recall a scene, I couldn't tell if it was from a movie or from a book.

Gemma is still trying hard to find a way to buy time to break the curse to have her life back. What she doesn't know is that Penn is just waiting for the right replacement before getting rid of her. Everyone is working hard to save Gemma. They have made more friends in order to find the way out for Gemma.

While Gemma is busy looking for the scroll, Daniel made a pack with Penn to keep Gemma and Harper safe. This was kept a secret. Gemma searched highs and lows for the scroll while Penn did the same for her replacement. All Gemma needed is time but time is running out. She is trying her very best to keep Harper out of it. Her father could not take any more of the nuisance. Towards the end, she confronted. Now that the truth is out, she has one less thing to worry about but it only adds more headcount to worry about her.

In this third book, it is all about searching and buying time. There are a little bit of action here and there but not much movements in the storyline.

p/s: Cant' wait to get into the final book! :) May it has a happy ending.

Which is more important? Quality for your reading? Or quantity?

My answer:
It has to be quality! I don't see the point reading so many trashy books or books that is not worth reading. This explains the number of books I have stopped reading mid-way; just can't bring myself to the end of it. I believe there are many more books which are worth my time and which could give me invaluable lessons and of course, satisfaction! :)

Boey at MPH Subang Parade

The moment I found out Boey will be in Malaysia and will be going around for book signings, I know I have to attend! Planned to go for the one in Kinokuniya KLCC but failed due to some unavoidable matters at home. MPH Subang Parade is my final chance and I'm glad I could make it! I made it just in time after I participated at Subang Jaya Book Exhange Programme. :)

It was my first time attending a Book Signing Session. Either none of my favourite authors have been to Malaysia or I am not aware of their whereabouts. (I doubt Sophie Kinsella or Amanda Hocking has been in Malaysia for any signings) The session started with a little presentation about Boey's childhood delivered by Boey himself followed by Q&A. I didn't expect to see soooo many kids but yea, there are many! Few 2 things that came to my mind were "Persimmon" and "Can they relate as well as kids in the 80s or 90s do?". Ah well, let's just leave it to their imagination. If they get it, good. If they don't, they can always reread when they reach the age when they would understand better. :p

Boey speaking of his parents.

Boey talked a little about Maths and weight problem.

Check out the kids!!!! One of them asked him for a movie. hahaha Cute!

This is probably the time when I asked if he is already on Goodreads and he said "Owhhh...so you're the one". Yea....hahaha He has to be there. That's where we bookaholics are. :)
Does this look like I am waiting for a teacher to mark my exercise book? :p The stance may look the same but I was very happy to have my book autographed and I got to chat a lil with him too. :) Well, it is not often that we get to meet authors, right?

Cute, isn't it? Can I have a cute character of myself too?

This is me getting excited about taking a pic with Boey. :p

Tadaa!!! This is a nice pic but too bad Book 1 had its back towards the camera. Mr.Photographer forgot to inform *smirk*....when I complained, he said "You've done 99% things right. This is minor". I don't know if I can go to sleep well with this unfixed. I don't even know how to photoshop!

Luck was on my side. After dinner(that was an hour after or so), I went back to MPH and found Boey still seated and calmly entertaining his fans. :) So here are a few more pictures. I made sure the book covers are facing the camera this time!

Below pic isn't good; I had my eye on the other camera.

So here it is! At last. Not too good but I fixed the first problem so I'll make do. :p

Autographed! Both books! :) I'm a happy "kid".

And here's a little something to show off too; When I Was A Kid 2 Shapie!
Got lucky with this one. ;) Thank you Boey!!!!!!

Missed Boey?
You still have few chances left to catch him! If you are in Melaka, you are in luck!

If you still haven't heard of Boey until you landed on my blog, check him out Wiki; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheeming_Boey

Want to know more about Boey?
Check out his page iamboey.com This is also where he often updates. Since I can't get enough of his books, this is where I go. And yes, I laugh to myself reading it sometimes.

p/s: This post is written bottom-up. I do this once in awhile coz top-to-bottom doesn't induce much words from my head. Reminds me of the days when I was studying for exams. I read my books and notes from the back. The front part of the books/notes could get a little bit boring coz I've done it way too many times.

Subang Jaya Book Exchange Programme

I have always thought about book exchanges within the bookaholic community but it just remains in my head. When I first found out about Subang Jaya Book Exchange Programme, I was ecstatic!

This awesome programme started in 2009 but I just found out about it last year. I never got the chance to go; I normally spend my weekend cocooning in my parents place in KL or working.

Last weekend, my lucky star (or sun?) was on my side. :) I manage to drop by to give it a shot!

For all of you who wonders where it is, please find the lovely cabin address at the bottom of this post.
If you know where USJ 12 field is, you will not miss the cabin.

Tadaa! Finally get to check in! *grinssss*

As you walk in, you will see a bookshelf filled with books.

Turn right and check in the books you would like to be exchanged. The books will be inspected to ensure it is good enough for an exchange.

Which books are acceptable?
I believe it has to be :
- in readable condition so no missing pages, not torn and etc.
- relevant; not too outdated. This probably applies to technology-related books.

For more, please get in touch with the organizer. Details at the bottom of this post. Upon approval of your books, you will receive a token similar to the one on my palm below. The person incharge will inform you of the number and type of books you are allowed to pick. This is based on the books you checked in earlier. ;)

The picture below was taken from a corner at the entrance of the cabin. Decent size. It is now housing fiction, non-fiction and children's books.

A lil panoramic view perhaps?

Time for short for me I hunt for gems. Seriously, I was rushing but I have to ensure I pick the right books!

Done!
As you can see, I am a happy girl. Exchanged 3 books with 3 gems. On top of that, I managed to be among the first 50 book exchanger so I got RM10 Times Bookstore voucher. That only means I CAN BUY MORE BOOKS. :p
(One time offer for now. It was a special weekend; Official Launch.)

Thank you Subang Book Exchange. Thank you Times Bookstore.

Books I brought home. :)
I didn't know what to pick. Went around the shelves and these got me.
I now have The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho printed in 1998. :)

My date told me to hurry up. I know I have too because there is a session with an author at MPH Subang Parade which I have been wanting to go!!!! Will post about it too!

Anyhow, few tips on picking books.

1) Don't rush! Go through be shelves. You will never know what you will find. (Yea, I was in a rush so I had to speed hunt!) I saw 2 copies of P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern, 2 out of 4 books from Nora Roberts Wedding quartet and The famous Eat Pray Love book.

2) Never judge books by its cover. Cliché. I know.

3) The books are arranged according to authors and sections so if there is an author you are looking for, the arrangement could help. :)

4) This needs luck. If there is an author you have never tried, this could be a good start. Need luck.

A little bit more about Subang Jaya Book Exchange Programme.

Address : BEP Cabin, Jalan USJ 12/2F.
Frequency : Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month.
Time : 3pm - 5pm

Btw, my date and I made it to the launch album. Spot us there! :p
