Booking Through Thursday - 1/7/2010

Name a book or author that you truly wanted to love but left you disappointed. (And, of course, explain why.)

My answer:
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. Believe it.
This book has been awarded best sellers in many countries but seriously, I don't get why. This book falls into my 1/5 rating. I have to say that the contents are repetitive and simply doesn't make sense to me. It mainly focuses on the power of attraction. How can we make our dreams come true by only believing it will come true? The author probably wants to promote positive thinking but sitting and dreaming our dreams will come true won't help to make it happen. 'Nuff said!

Then again, it probably isn't my cup of tea. :p

I have this book sitting on my shelf and I just can't seem to pick it up to read it.

Here's my answer.

Sounds like just the sort of book I'd loathe. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho took much the same line and I thought it was utterly ridiculous. No amount of wishing can make something magically happen.

LOL you're like the person who tells the kids the toothfairy isn't real! But I totally understand...that just seems like a pointless book.

I don't think that book is my cuppa tea either. I'm to old to think just thinking and dreaming is going to make things come true.

I would enjoy a summary of this book but to read through the whole thing with the repetition, I agree, nope.

Some people need that kind of book, which we can tell since Globally it was a hit.

I borrowed the dvd and couldn't get through that either.

It sound rather too simplistic and childish I am glad I will avoid the book all together, I appreciate you honest review.

Hi RUZ,

Thanks for visiting "My Reading Corner" today.

In answer to you question: What do I do with books that I don't finish reading? There is a half-price bookstore I visit, not only are their books half-priced, the ones on clearance are $1 or $2 dollars. And, they do buy your books that you are finished with. So most of my books go there when I am finished with them, whether I liked them or not. I make a few bucks that way, but, they always get it all back before I leave the store. LOL...

If I have some books that my library doesn't already have I donate them to the library, but, most of the time they already have the books by the time I read them.
